World's only Corn Palace
The world's only Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota
The Corn Palace is used for many things in the Mitchell community as well as the entire area. Lot's of stage shows and several sporting events are held in the Corn Palace arena. The World's Only Corn Palace depicts the agricultural heritage of South Dakota.
 
The first Corn Palace, was called "The Corn Belt Exposition" and began in 1892. Farmers displayed crops they had harvested on the outside of the building. Several events happened over time and present building was completed at the present location in 1921.
