White Lake Wind Farm
The New Source of Energy?
12 miles north of the small central South Dakota community of White Lake, you will find many windmills. These are not the type used for years by farmers and ranchers to pump water to livestock. These windmills are said to be the future of energy production. Will the benefit justify the cost? That question remains to be answered but it's hard to ignore the impact on the landscape.
The video above is from the U.S Department of Energy
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, South Dakota has considerable potential for wind energy production. It's important to consider the changing climate as well as the future energy needs of the state and country.
No one can predict our future energy needs or the success of these windmills but for the time being they have made an impact on South Dakota and are certainly part of the landscape.
